Reserved a moon out, sat at the corner of the counter, and did not check the time once. The nigiri course alone was worth the trip.
Anniversary seating
Twelve seats. One counter. One unhurried evening, set in front of you by hand.
The chef sets each course in front of you by hand. Nothing rushed. Nothing repeated.
There is no menu to hand back, no list to choose from. You take one of twelve seats, and the evening comes to you course by course ~ what was best at the market that morning, finished an arm's length away and served the moment it is ready.
One set menu, chosen for you. It turns with the season ~ this is the shape of a recent night.
A small cold dish to set the tone. Often something raw and clean, dressed with almost nothing.
A run of nigiri placed straight onto the counter, each piece meant to be eaten the moment it lands.
A single course off the binchōtan ~ miso-glazed black cod, a curl of smoke, a leaf of shiso.
A quiet bowl to finish, then something small and sweet to send you back into the night.
The counter is one seating, one menu, all together. Dietary needs are welcome ~ tell us when you reserve and the chef builds around them.

Lantern & Ash is one long counter of blonde hinoki, twelve seats, and a single warm light over each place. The room is dark so the food is not.
We keep it small because the whole point is the counter ~ close enough to watch the knife work, to hear the grill, to trade a word with the chef between courses. Reservations open one moon ahead and the counter fills quickly, so we hold a short waitlist for the seats that open up.

The black cod off the grill and the sake pairing were the best two hours we have spent at a counter. Quiet, exact, unhurried.
They built the whole menu around a shellfish allergy without missing a beat. Twelve seats, one chef, and it felt like it was just for us.

Reservations open one moon ahead. If the night you want is full, the waitlist reaches you the moment a seat opens.

Ask it anything. It answers only from Lantern & Ash's real seatings, the omakase, and the price ~ and says "I do not know, tap Call" instead of guessing.
